About sequence of tenses.

If the time of main clause and that of subordinate clause are equal to each other, the tense of the subordinate clause becomes tenseless.
If not, you have to add a tense to the subordinate clause.

In "la vortat im ti fias" (You were born when he died), the time of the main clause and subordinate clause are equal.
If "you" had been born before "he" died, the tense of the subordinate clause will be the past tense: "la vortat im ti fiasat."
